Donald Trump reportedly clashes with AT&T Verizon and T-Mobile over spam texts.
The president of the US, President Trump is having a misunderstanding with cellphone carriers over the right to send citizens of America unsolicited text messages.
Since early July, Trump's campaign lawyers are in active talks with phone companies after a third party screening tool blocked trump text in early July. The campaign alleges that screening the text amounts to suppressing to political speech, while carriers fear allowing them will result in fines for violating anti-spam rules.
The US 2020 presidential election and campaigns are now relying on text messages, and this has brought a huge wave of text messages across the political race because of the covid-19 pandemic limiting outreach to people due to the lockdown and social distancing rule being exercised. Many users didn't opt in to not get political texts but the phone carrier companies are stopping the texts from reaching the users automatically without their consent. It is still unclear if the carriers are violating the US federal rules that was created to curb unwanted texts.
A campaign spokesperson told The Verge that the Trump administration stands by it program, "Any effort by the carriers to restrict the campaign from contacting it supporters is suppression of political speech.Plain and simple" Spokeperson for AT&T and Verizon directed the verge to the CTIA wireless industry group. And they responded saying, "We expect all senders, w whether school, airline, bank, campaign, to include clear opt out language and gain prior consent before sending a text, these simple steps help protect consumers from spam and maintain text messages as a trusted medium for everyone".
